It's difficult to tell when it's folded up like this but if he looks under the wings where the folds meet, he might see that one of the sides appears to be kind of worn? Not jagged exactly but like, straight and dull like someone tore it against an edge if that makes sense?)
Could you imagine using a sword for something like this? (Considering his sword is on the longer side and everything...) Something smaller is better... ah, but the blade isn't very good.
