You don't need to be a sage or a monk for us. By keeping us, the soul we get is shaped by actions or the lack of.
As a chef, you understand. Don't you have tools that you use? When you sharpen your knives and clean and put away your bowls, they last longer and serve you well. But what if you neglected them? Treated them poorly and let them go dull and chip? Eventually, they give. Why serve someone who won't care for it?
Have you ever inherited something old and felt it was more than just a thing? Like it was special and held emotion and memories?
Whether it be people or things, you leave your mark where ever you go. And sometimes, you can help something new grow.
[He has a set of cutlery that's been with him for centuries. If his world worked the same way Tsurumaru's, would that set of cutlery that he's had have a soul now? Nero can barely remember a time where he didn't have them at his side.]
You're younger now, tired, exhausted, at the end of your stamina. Around you a blizzard goes on. Maybe you should just give up. Right now, you're only dead weight. In front of you, a man reaches for you and pulls you onto his back. You bury your face in his shoulder, "-don’t need to die on my account..." you try to protest. He doesn't need to do this for you, not really. There are more important things.
His shoulder shake slightly. Is he laughing at you? He offers you up a ring. The jewel set in it is a calming smoky black, with elegantly subtle sparkles shining through. His rough but caring voice cuts through the music, "It’ll protect ya no matter when or where. It won’t let it’s owner die."
And he wants you to have it? Wouldn't it be better for him? You put your hand around the ring and push it back to him. "Please... make it out of here alive."
Your life doesn't matter as much as his. People rely on him, you rely on him. A world without him in it- you don't want to imagine that.
It seems like he's scolding you. This man cares about you and you want to give him everything in return. He's given you a place to live, safety, a reason to try to survive.
"-Don’t matter who condemns you. I’ll always have your back. Tell me ya don’t wanna die. Or, at the very least, tell me ya don’t want me to die."
He really is... amazing. This is it then. You cling to him tighter, your lifeline, your reason for living.
Something Tsurumaru thinks is how he recognizes the ring and when the memory passes, he also recalls the feelings he felt when he grabbed that ring in the castle.
As the memory smiles, Tsurumaru smiles.
Kiku, meanwhile, is going fly over and check on Disce? Don't step on glass shards???)

(He's used to this by now.)
When an object reaches 100 years, it obtains a soul, and with it, becomes aware and alive.

... That a kinda sweet way of talkin' about it.

I've told you about myself.
(This is how he's opening because now he has questions about Nero.)

[ oh no is he trapped by politeness, is he stuck here? This is a nightmare. ]

(He'll put that out there.)
Who is he?

[He does not want to say anything but...]
Some guy I used to know.

(He can tell but he still wants to ask.)

Then that's all that matters.

Be careful this week.
(Nero wouldn't want to be known because of these shards, would he?
