After headcounts and alibi checks, Tsurumaru will linger around a bit to watch people break off into their smaller groups and pairs before slipping away on his own. Let's see if he can find anyone interesting to bother now that the excitment has passed for the morning.)
[ kaeya is here, lingering after the headcount and perched unceremoniously on the arm of one of the rickety chairs in the lobby. polaris lets out a sharp sneeze and the wolf shifts in a sharp twist of white into a peacock.
there's an ungainly squawk as he settles feathers out in a sharp burst. some of them flutter to the ground (they will eventually turn to dust but for now they're just A Mess(TM) ]
Polaris... why are you making it so hard to clean up after you?
[ only birds, and polaris preens, realizing that he is gathering attention (duh, that's what he wants always, an underlying need, a little flash and what have you.) still, kaeya looks only mildly amused as tsurumaru comes over.
and is promptly slapped by his own bird. ]
His name is Polaris. A bit of a showboat.
[ polaris turns and whacks kaeya with his tail quite pointedly. weaponized. you may continue to praise him and ignore his human. thx. ]
[ polaris smells a kindred spirit. as much as a bird can smell anyways. his neck cranes at kaeya like "see? someone appreciates me? and all the beautiful presents i leave behind?" polaris dips down and takes a feather, placing it forward.
--kaeya feels a twinge of unease and clears his throat--
before stepping back.
it will fade to dust after a few hours, but polaris for some reason likes giving them away???? ]
It isn't that I don't understand, far from it. It's just that if I have to wake with one more huge quill stuck in my ass I don't know what I'll do.
(Ah. Tsurumaru looks at the offering. There's a quick, brief glance over towards Kaeya and a moment of consideration before Kiku alights, hopping on the ground in front of Polaris and taking the feather. It's bigger than she is but she makes it work, skipping off with it and taking flight once more. Tsurumaru stands up, holding open his bag for her to deposit the feather in.)
Such a generous creature... (A bow of the head towards Polaris,) Thank you.
(This is the best he can do for now.)
... Well, it isn't my concern how you decide to sleep. (Especially if you are ending up with feathers in your ass????) I hope you slept well last night, though.
[ HE SOMETIMES SLEEPS TUCKED BEHIND HIS KNEES OKAY. IT'S HOW IT HAPPENS. ]
Like a baby, unfortunately. Once the door locked, I didn't think I would be able to fall asleep at all.
[ he looks down at polaris and softly strokes beneath his chin. generous dumb bird. he watches kiku with a light smile, the quick, darting motions surprisingly elegant to watch. ]

Tsurumaru's attention is instantly caught and he wants to come over and look!)
Ah, look, Kiku. (The magpie on flying along in circles and swoops near him settles on his shoulder,) Isn't she beautiful?
(Kiku spreads her wings, slapping Tsurumaru in the face,)
Of course, of course, you are, too.
(HE IS JUST??? TOTALLY IGNORING KAEYA??? Only birds now.)

He?
(And crouching down to be on a closer level to Polaris,)
Pardon me. (Yes, whack this poor man that clearly cannot count.) Ah, if you know you're beautiful, then why keep it to yourself, right?
Some humans don't understand.
(Kiku chirps... in agreement? Yes.)

(Tsurumaru is quiet as he listens to Kaeya, thinking about the answer.)
After the building trapped us and the sounds began, I'd planned on staying awake... but then I awoke this morning.
(So, same. Kiku lands on Tsurumaru's head and does one, single skip and chirp as if to confirm. Yeah, it was weird??)
